How do watts relate to amps?

Watts measure real power. Amps measure current. Dividing watts by volts gives amps for DC and unity-PF single-phase AC.

Why is power factor needed?

On AC systems, real power is VA × power factor. Including PF gives a more accurate current estimate.

Is three-phase different?

Yes. Balanced three-phase current uses √3 and usually includes power factor: I = P ÷ (√3 × V × PF).
